Application for International Students - Required Documents】

Please upload all required documents as follow in PDF format to the application website before the application deadline. Applicants should ensure that all files are backed up, as the documents will be not returned regardless of admission status. Note: Please make sure the direction and the content of the supporting documents are correct as well. We also will suggest you to use the free software called PDF Converter to transfer and complete the files.

Incomplete document submission will be considered as unqualified application.

1. Complete the online application form

  • Applicants should register online first, and the form “Application for Admission of National Cheng Kung University” can be completed online.
  • In case of missing information, please provide a valid contact telephone number and email address, provide a correct address for mailing notification use, as well as passport ID number and birthday for confirmation use.

 


2. Declaration

  • Applicants should download and print the “Declaration” form from our website; sign and upload the scanned file to complete the application.

 


3. The highest degree diploma

(applicants should provide verified with official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. and bring verified documents upon registeration)

  • Undergraduate program applicants: High school diploma (or above)
  • Master’s program applicants: Bachelor’s degree diploma (or above)
  • Ph.D. program applicants: Master’s degree diploma (or above) *please check if the department/institute requires additional Bachelor's degree diploma.
  • If the diploma is not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is required; if the degree diploma is notarized from a university in Taiwan, it doesn’t have to be verified.
  • For those expecting to graduate this year and are yet to obtain their diplomas, submit a copy of the student ID card showing the year of study; graduating students admitted to NCKU must submit the official diploma, verified by R.O.C. overseas institutes at the time of registration, or admission will be cancelled. (We do not accept the provisional diploma/certificate.)
  • Applicants whose high school graduating level is only equivalent to Taiwan's high school second grade, once admitted to the department, at least extra 12 credits will be required at NCKU in addition to meet each department's credit requirement before graduation. 

 


4. The official transcripts by years

  • Undergraduate program applicants: High school transcript (or above) by year
  • Master’s program applicants: Bachelor’s degree transcript (or above) by year
  • Ph.D. program applicants: Master’s and Bachelor’s degree transcripts (or above) by year. *please check if the department/institute requires additional Bachelor's transcript.
  • If the transcript is not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is required;
  • Transcripts from universities in Taiwan do not need verification.

※ Applicants may directly contact the relevant R.O.C. Embassy or Representative Office / Institutes regarding verification / authentication procedures. See MOFA website for the nearest embassy or representative office.

 


5.  A financial statement

(applicants should provide verified with official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. and bring verified documents upon registeration)

  • Bank deposit statement of at least NT$120,000 (approx. at US$4,000) or more must be provided, showing sufficient financial support for the applicant’s entire stay during the time of study.
  • Financial statements from banks or institutes in Taiwan do not require verification.
  • Scholarship recipients may submit proof of award in lieu of a financial statement.
  • If the financial statement is not in the name of the applicant, a declaration with signature from the sponsor must be included, stating the relationship with the applicant and guaranteeing responsibility for all of applicant's expenses in Taiwan. (Click to download declaration form)

 


6. Two recommendation letters

  • Applicants can upload the recommendation letters if the letter is given by the recommender. Once uploaded by the applicant, it is not necessary to have the recoommender to upload again when receiving the notification email.
  • Applicants should register via application portal and also provide the recommender’s contact information. The recommender will receive an email through the application system after your submission, and then go through the recommendation process online by the following methods:

i. Fill out the recommendation letter online by the recommender
ii. Upload the recommendation letter online by the recommender

  • Recommenders who can be the applicant's teachers or employers, may use a private letter format, or use the format downloaded from our website (Click to download).

 


7. Identity card and / or passport, the ROC alien resident certificate (if available), and the Certificate of the R.O.C. Non-Household Registration, or other credentials (if applicable)

  • Please upload the scanned document(s) of national identity card and / or the passport with the personal information page  mentioned in the application form.
  • Applicants who are qualified pursuant to Section II, Article Two of the Ministry of Education’s “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” will need to submit the aforementioned documents. 8. Study plan 

  • All applicants are required to submit a study plan which contains details regarding his or her education background, research interest, motivations for further study, etc.

 


9. English(/Chinese) autobiography

  • Applicants should follow the departmental requirements of each department to provide a Chinese or English autobiography.

 


10. Academic thesis or relevant publications (for Ph.D. program applicants)

  • Applicants for Ph.D. programs should submit a copy of their Master’s thesis or relevant academic publications.

 


11. Chinese / English Proficiency Certificate

(applicants should provide verified with official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. and bring verified documents upon registration)

  • Bases on the all English-Medium Instruction (EMI) courses in each dept/inst (marked in green or red dot in the admission prospectus). The English proficiency certificate should be CEFR B2 and/or above, refer to the table at CEFR AlignmentsThe GRE Code for NCKU is 3697, the TOEFL Code or NCKU is 2450

 For 2024/2025 academic year undergraduate program applicants, English proficiency certificate meets CEFR B1 and/or above; For 2025/2026 academic year undergraduate program applicant should meet CEFR B2 and/or above.

  • Bases on the partial English-Medium Instruction (EMI) courses in each dept/inst (marked in blacek or blue dot in the admission prospectus). The Chinese proficiency certificate should be TOCFL A2 and/or above, refer to the table at Chinese proficiency conversion table.

 


12. Additional requirements by the intended department/institute (if applicable), and/or other reference documents (if applicable)

  • Detailed information regarding additional admission requirements of different departments/institutes can be obtained from "Admission Prospectus" and “Admission Requirements of Departments/ Institutes”. e.g. Chinese autobiography, proof of work experience/employment, portfolio etc.
  • The dept./ inst. will conduct oral test or online interview if needed, and will notify applicant separatly by the dept./inst.
  • Applicants are welcome to upload any additional documents which may favor their application by combining the supporting documents, such as extra curriculiars, certifications etc.

 


13. Application fee NOT REFUNDABLE

  • Each applicant will be charged NT$2,000 (this will cover the postage costs for the acceptance letter).
  • Each applicant pay the application fee (NT$2,000) can apply for three departments.
  • We will process the application after the completion of the application fee payment.

 


When reviewing one's admission application, if any of the required documents (i.e. Degree diploma, Financial statement, Language certificate, or other documents required by NCKU) have not been authenticated by an overseas mission, or by an agency established or designated by the Executive Yuan, or by a private organization commissioned by the Executive Yuan, and the university has any doubts about them, it may request authentication by an overseas agency. If documents that have already been authenticated raise any doubts, NCKU may request examination of the documents. In accordance with the Regulations Regarding Internationla Studnets Undertaking Studies in Taiwan (Article 7)
