Admission Guidelines
Enrollment and Registration
- All admitted students must confirm their acceptance for studies online before the deadline. Applicants who fail to do the procedure will be considered as giving up their offer of admission.
- All admitted students should register with the relevant offices by the designated time, following administration procedures. The required documents will be stated and detailed in the admission package. Failure to complete the registration procedure will be considered as giving up their offer of admission.
- All admitted students must provide the highest degree diploma, verified with official stamps by the ROC embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ROC (This document will be returned after being examined and filed). If the diploma is not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is required; if the degree diploma is notarized from a university in Taiwan, it does not have to be verified.
- All admitted students must provide proof of medical and personal accident insurance from their home country valid from entering into the ROC and up to at least six months upon enrollment in accordance with or purchase the six-month medical and accidental insurance coverage through NCKU. Students already insured by the ROC's national health insurance must also provide proof of insurance. If the proof of insurance is issued outside of Taiwan, it should be verified by ROC representative offices in the country where the document is issued.
Eligibility
I. Identification
To be eligible to apply, applicants must qualify for legal International Student or Overseas Chinese Student status under the Ministry of Education’s “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”, or “Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Compatriot Students in Taiwan” or “Regulations Regarding the Study and Residence of Hong Kong and Macao Residents in Taiwan” before application.
II. Nationality
Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, and Other Countries.
III. Academic Credentials
- Academic qualifications: students with a Bachelor’s degree for Master’s programs.
- Applicant’s academic performance during university studies, upon graduation from university, or graduation from a junior college ranks above average in class or department.
IV. Language Proficiency
- Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must achieve at least Level 2 (equivalent to CEFR A2) on the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) in both Chinese listening and reading. By the end of the first academic year, students must reach at least TOCFL Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B1). Applicants from non-English speaking countries must submit proof of English proficiency.
- Applicants for English-taught programs must have English proficiency at CEFR Level B1 or above. Before the end of the first acaedmic year, students must achieve at least Chinese TOCFL Level 2 (equivalent to CEFR A2) in both listening and reading.
- Applicants should meet additional language requirements from the departmnets if any.

- Application Form
- The Highest Degree Diploma (in Chinese/English)
(1) Master’s Program applicants: Bachelor’s degree diploma (or above).
(2) Note 1: If the diploma is not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is required.
(3) Note 2: If the degree diploma is notarized from a university in Taiwan, it does not have to be verified.
(4) Note 3: For those expecting to graduate this year and are yet to obtain their diplomas, please submit a copy of the student ID card showing the year of study; graduating students admitted to NCKU must submit the official diploma, verified by ROC overseas institutes at the time of registration, or admission will be cancelled. (The provisional diploma/certificate is not acceptable.) - Full Official Transcripts (including grade description, GPAs, or class rankings)
(1) Master’s Program applicants: Bachelor’s transcript (or above) by year.
(2) Note 1: If the transcript is not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is required.
(3) Note 2: International students currently studying at universities/colleges in Taiwan must have achieved an average grade in the previous academic year that ranks within he top 50% of their class, and a conduct grade of no less than 80 (Grade A).
(4) Note 3: Transcripts from universities in Taiwan do not need verification.
For “ The highest degree diploma” and “ The official transcripts by years”, applicants should provide verified version with official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. and bring verified documents upon registration. - Two Recommendation Letters
Please choose one of the following options:
(1) Applicants could upload by themselves if they have recommenders’ recommendation letters on hand. (Note: Recommender may ignore the system notice email to avoid duplication.)
(2) Applicants should register via application portal and also provide the recommender’s contact information. The recommender will receive a system notice email after your submission, and then go through the recommendation process online by the following methods:- Fill out the recommendation letter online by the recommender.
- Upload the recommendation letter online by the recommender.
- Applicants have to confirm their recommender to complete before the deadline.
(4) Note 2: Required to be written in Chinese or English and referrers have to be the applicant’s teachers or employers. - Identity card and/ or passport, the ROC alien resident certificate (if available), and the Certificate of the ROC Non-Household Registration, or other credentials (if applicable)
(1) Please upload the scanned document(s) of the national identity card and/or the passport with the personal information page.
(2) Applicants qualified under Section II, Article Two of the Ministry of Education’s “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” must submit the documents above. For more details, please get in touch with the Office of International Affairs, NCKU. - Language Proficiency Certificate

All applicant must submit a study plan containing details regarding their educational background, research interests, motivations for further study, etc. - English or Chinese Autobiography
Applicants should follow the departmental requirements of each department to provide a Chinese or English autobiography. - Financial Statement
(1) Bank deposit statement of at least NTD$120,000 (approx. US$4,000) and above must be provided, showing sufficient financial support for the one’s entire stay during the time of study.
(2) If the financial statement is not in the name of the applicant, a declaration with a signature from the sponsor must be included, stating the relationship with the applicant and guaranteeing responsibility for all of the applicant's expenses in Taiwan.

- Other supporting documents or project reports
(1) Detailed information regarding additional requirements of different departments/institutes can be obtained from “Requirements of Departments”. e.g. Chinese autobiography, proof of employment, portfolio, etc.
(2) Note 1: The department will conduct oral test or online interview if needed, and will notify separately by the department.
(3) Note 2: Applicants are welcome to upload any additional documents which may favor their application by combining the supporting documents, such as extra curriculars, certifications etc.
(4) Note 3: If the project was completed by multiple collaborators, the names of all collaborators and the applicant’s specific contributions must be clearly stated.
(5) Note 4: Any false information, once verified, will result in disqualification from admission.

- Application fee: TWD 2,000 will be charged to each applicant. Each applicant could apply for up to three (3) departments and with one log-in account only.
- Payment Methods:
(1) Online Payment with Credit Card
After finishing the online application form, applicants can pay the application fee online via credit card. Only NTD2000 is accepted.
(2) Payment within Taiwan:
After filling out the online application form, a set of exclusive account numbers will be generated and shown on the online system. Each account number is designated to students is UNIQUE. Please do not share accounts from different semesters. No refund will be given if students use a wrong account. Applicants can go to any bank or post office to make the payment by wire transfer directly or via ATMs in Taiwan. Please enclose a copy of the transaction receipt through the application system. The interbank transfer fee shall be borne by the applicant.- Beneficiary’s Account Number: the system will be generated and provided.

- Application Fee Reminder:
(1) Application for which the application fee is not paid will not be processed.
(2) When the application fee is paid, no refund will be given for any reason, including withdrawing the application, failing to meet application requirements, paying by mistake and making repeated payments.
(3) Payment is only accepted in TWD or USD, we do not accept other currencies. Neither do we accept cash sent by post nor bank checks.
(4) Payment Slip: Whether paying online by credit card or via bank transfer, please keep a screenshot of the successful transaction or the bank transfer receipt. Upload the screenshot or receipt to the online application system.
Related Notes
- If anyone who has applied or received offers of admission into NCKU violates any of the regulations of the Ministry of Education (MOE) “Regulations Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”, or “Regulations Regarding Study and Counseling Assistance for Overseas Compatriot Students in Taiwan”, or “Regulations Regarding the Study and Residence of Hong Kong and Macao Residents in Taiwan” or if any of the documents submitted are found to be fraudulent, forged or altered, it will result in immediate cancellation of admission, deprivation of their recognized status as an NCKU registered student or revocation of their NCKU diploma. No academic certificate will be given.
- For applicants whose high school graduating level is only equivalent to Taiwan's high school second grade, once admitted, at least 12 credits at NCKU, in addition to each department's credit requirement, are required before graduation. (applicable to undergraduate program applicants)
- International students who withdraw from university/college after admission due to behavior issues, poor academic performance, or a conviction under the Criminal Code may not thereafter apply again for admission under “MOE Regulation Regarding International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”.
