[Disease Prevention Notice] Preventing the Invasion of African Swine Fever and Other Transboundary Animal Diseases

update date : 2025-05-27
  1. As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, past data shows that violations involving prohibited imports tend to increase during this period. In order to prevent the introduction of major transboundary animal diseases such as African Swine Fever (ASF) and to enforce border quarantine measures, we kindly ask for your continued assistance in reminding international students not to bring animal or plant quarantine items into Taiwan.
Students are also asked to inform their friends and relatives abroad not to mail pork products or other restricted animal items to Taiwan, to avoid penalties.

  2. For travelers arriving from countries or regions affected by ASF in the past three years, the following penalties apply for bringing pork products into Taiwan:

    • First offense: NT$200,000 fine

    • Second offense: NT$1,000,000 fine
For individuals without Taiwanese residency, if they fail to pay the NT$200,000 fine on the spot, they will be referred to the National Immigration Agency and denied entry into the country.
Additionally, effective May 20, 2022, recipients of pork products sent via mail from ASF-affected countries or regions will be fined NT$200,000 for the first offense, and NT$1,000,000 for the second and subsequent offenses.
