On May 4, 2025, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosted a seminar titled "The Application and Practice of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching, Research, and Service" at the Macronix Hall International Conference Room. The event, organized by the Office of International Affairs, attracted nearly 300 participants, including faculty, students, and researchers, to discuss AI's role in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

In his opening remarks, NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen emphasized the university's commitment to responsibly advancing AI. He outlined six focus areas for AI development: Data Bank management, Digital Privacy, Computing Power, Cybersecurity, Education, and Service Package. The keynote address, delivered by Professor Bing-Yu Chen, Deputy Minister of the National Science and Technology Council, focused on "Human-centered AI." Professor Chen discussed how AI should address societal needs and support human collaboration rather than replace human labor. He also detailed the southern Taiwan Silicon Valley initiative to enhance industries through AI and raised questions about the balance between human needs and AI capabilities. He further introduced plans for a "one-stop cloud platform for large language models" and the forthcoming AI 3.0 project, which focuses on Sovereign AI, Sustainable AI, Secure AI, and Mobile AI.

The seminar's afternoon session showcased interdisciplinary applications of AI in fields such as humanities, engineering, and social sciences. Topics included "AI in Humanities and Language Teaching," "AI in Mathematics and Programming Education," "Challenges and Governance of AI in Criminal Investigation," and "Edge Intelligence in Biomedical Applications." These presentations highlighted the diverse potential of AI across academic disciplines.
