NCKU representatives welcome Minister Dustin Teng-shi Yang and Director Tony Shih-ping Lee at the booth of University of the Philippines Diliman.

From September 15 to 20, 2025, a delegation from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) participated in the 2025 Taiwan Higher Education Fair organized by the Taiwan Education Center in the Philippines, held in Metro Manila. The primary objective was to enhance NCKU’s visibility and reputation among local students and faculty, ultimately aiming to attract outstanding overseas students to its diverse academic programs. The delegation, led by Professor Wilson Wang from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Ms. Lisa Wu from the Office of International Affairs, engaged in fruitful exchanges with four prominent educational institutions, successfully showcasing NCKU’s strengths in research and innovation.

During the fair, NCKU representatives conducted presentations and discussions at key institutions, including the Philippine Science High School, De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, FEU Institute of Technology, and the University of the Philippines Diliman. Despite challenges such as transportation strikes and typhoon warnings, the hybrid format of the event attracted approximately 600 in-person attendees and 1000 online participants, demonstrating a strong interest in Taiwanese higher education.

Minister Michael Lee delivers his words of encouragement to Filipino students and his gratitude to the Taiwanese representatives for joining the Education Fair.

Speaking at the event, Minister Michael Lee, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, underscored the geographical proximity and vibrant exchanges between Taiwan and the Philippines. He noted that nearly 500,000 Filipinos visited Taiwan in 2024, reflecting growing bilateral connections. Minister Lee emphasized Taiwan’s world-class education system and globally leading high-tech industries—particularly semiconductors and ICT—highlighting opportunities for Filipino students to pursue higher education and research in Taiwan. He encouraged students to take advantage of Taiwan’s scholarships and academic programs to progress from packaging and testing to advanced chip manufacturing and design, thereby contributing to stronger educational and technological collaboration between the two countries.

The successful participation in the 2025 Taiwan Higher Education Fair marks a significant step in NCKU’s ongoing efforts to enhance its international recruitment strategy. By addressing the specific interests and needs of Filipino students—particularly in STEM fields, internships, and scholarship opportunities—NCKU is well-positioned to attract a diverse cohort of international students. This visit not only elevated NCKU’s profile in the Philippines but also provided valuable insights into local student preferences, guiding future initiatives to optimize recruitment strategies and academic offerings. As NCKU continues to build its international network, it remains dedicated to fostering educational exchanges that enrich both its campus community and the global academic landscape.
