【NCKU OIA eNews】 Burapha University Visits NCKU to Strengthen Partnership and Explore New Collaborations

A delegation from Burapha University (BUU), Thailand, led by President Watcharin Gasaluck, Ph.D., visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on December 19th. The visit focused on advancing collaborations in medicine while exploring opportunities in engineering, computer science, and other fields. Both universities aim to establish a stronger partnership and foster transnational research between Taiwan and Thailand.

Executive Vice President of NCKU, Chair Prof. Woei-Jer Chuang highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two universities, which began in 2017. He proposed forming a transnational medical alliance to enhance big data sharing and AI-driven medical advancements. EVP Chuang also emphasized the importance of increasing faculty and student exchanges to solidify the partnership further.
President Watcharin Gasaluck, Ph.D., expressed gratitude for NCKU’s warm reception and reflected on the fruitful collaboration initiated through the Asia Pacific Workshop and Conference on Molecular Medicine (APCMM). He emphasized BUU’s commitment to advancing medical research with government support and expressed enthusiasm for expanding collaboration into natural and applied sciences. President Gasaluck envisioned a partnership that would be as deeply rooted as the symbolic Banyan trees of NCKU.


Chair Prof. Sun-Yuan Hsieh, Vice President for International Affairs of NCKU, and Dr. Waranurin Yisarakun, Associate Dean for Academic and Research, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of BUU, introduced the collaboration history between the two universities. Professor Chun Hei Antonio Cheung from NCKU’s College of Medicine highlighted its key strengths. During the discussion session, President Watcharin Gasaluck emphasized student exchange program, language exchange, and faculty exchange initiatives to enhance academic collaboration. NCKU responded positively, proposing the establishment of stable communication channels for future cooperation.

Burapha University, located in Chonburi, Thailand, is a comprehensive public university with three campuses and state-of-the-art facilities, including the Burapha University Hospital.
