The 2024 NCKU-UTS International Workshop co-hosted by the College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Australia was successfully conducted on June 3rd at NCKU. Fruitful discussions between NCKU and UTS scholars specializing in fields such as wireless communications & networking, AI applications, and cybersecurity broadened the two universities’ research collaboration.

NCKU’s Vice President for General Affairs, Distinguished Prof. Jian-Hong Wu, delivered the welcome remarks on behalf of President, Chair Prof. Meng-Ru Shen, stating that NCKU has not only been nurturing innovative talents with fruitful research outcomes, but has also been dedicating to interdisciplinary cooperation for a long period. With closer academic collaboration with UTS, NCKU looks forward to inspiring a new generation of scholars and innovators to work together on solving more global challenges.

During the opening ceremony, Vice President for International Affairs, Chair Prof. Sun-Yuan Hsieh, gave a brief account of the cooperation history between the two institutions:  over the past 4 years alone, the two institutions have already co-authored 46 publications; mainly in environmental science, energy, and chemical engineering areas. Furthermore, in September 2023 when the UTS delegates, led by Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice-President (International) Mr. Iain Watt, visited NCKU, the two institutions proceeded to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a new milestone in various aspects such as double degree programs, collaboration in research, and exchange of students, teachers, research & administrative staff.

UTS Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice-President (International) Mr. Iain Watt, who participated in the workshop online, also delivered an address, in which he brought about UTS’ academic-excellence particularly in the areas of business, law, and technology, along with its rich experience in industry-academia collaboration.
