【Fostering Collaboration: Kumamoto University and NCKU Enhance Research Partnership and Exchange】

On April 22^nd, 2024, Prof. Jun Otani, Vice President of Kumamoto University visited NCKU and was received by President Meng-Ru Shen. During the meeting, Vice President Otani extended an invitation on behalf of Pro. Hisao Ogawa, President of Kumamoto University to President Shen for the 2025 Taiwan-Japan University Presidents’ Forum, which would be hosted by Kumamoto University. Alongside existing connections, both universities expressed a keen interest in boarding their research partnership to a broader range of disciplines and strengthening their partnership through increased student exchange opportunities. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Jian-Hong Wu, Vice President for General Affairs, Prof. Yan-Kuin Su, Dean of the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing, and Prof. Sherry Shu-Jung Hu, Associate Vice President for International Affairs. Besides meeting President Shen, Vice President Otani also attended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center and Kumamoto University’s Center for Water Cycle, Marine Environment, and Disaster Management, and paid a visit to the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing.

One of the oldest universities in Japan, Kumamoto University is a public university that is home to over 9,000 students. Its seven faculties, nine graduate schools, and 25 research centers/institutes support a wide spectrum of educational and research activities. Kumamoto University was selected by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for the Top Global University Project, as one of the innovative universities leading the internationalization of Japanese society through continuous improvement.
