To cultivate students’ global perspectives and strengthen their international mobility, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) continues to promote the University-Wide Outgoing Exchange Program, which enables students to pursue academic study at overseas partner institutions. Through reciprocal exchange agreements, selected students are nominated to study abroad for one academic semester, gaining valuable academic and cross-cultural experience.
Coordinated by the Office of International Affairs (OIA), the University-Wide Outgoing Exchange Program is open to eligible students across all colleges and represents one of NCKU’s long-standing internationalization initiatives. The OIA oversees the program’s selection and nomination processes, ensuring transparent procedures and comprehensive student support.
To support outgoing students in preparing for their exchange journeys, the Office of International Affairs held the University-Wide Outgoing Exchange Program Pre-departure Orientation for the 2026 Spring Semester on December 22, 2025.
The orientation covered key topics essential to overseas study, including safety awareness, guidance on scholarship applications, and experience-sharing by senior exchange students. The session was marked by an interactive atmosphere, with students actively engaging in discussions and small-group exchanges.
Mr. Coltyn Liu and Ms. Jennifer Chen, Coordinators of the University-Wide Outgoing Exchange Program, outlined essential preparations prior to departure. In addition to confirming passport validity and managing personal health needs, they emphasized compliance with partner universities’ insurance requirements and encouraged students to obtain additional overseas travel and medical insurance based on individual circumstances.

Nearly 100 students will be joining in exchange programs at partner universities in the 2026 Spring semester.
To enhance risk awareness, Mr. Liu shared practical experiences from previous exchange participants and advised students to remain calm when facing unfamiliar situations or emergencies. Students were reminded to promptly contact the university, local authorities, or overseas representative offices when necessary. Participants were also required to download the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Travel Safety Information App before departure, enabling access to real-time safety updates and emergency contact information.
In closing, Ms. Chen encouraged students to approach their exchange experience with an open and optimistic mindset. Beyond academic pursuits, she emphasized that overseas exchange offers valuable opportunities to develop interpersonal skills and cross-cultural understanding. Students were encouraged to respect cultural differences and communicate thoughtfully, recognizing cross-cultural competence as one of the most significant outcomes of international exchange.
