【NCKU OIA eNews】 NCKU Showcases Its Strengths at Sutomo World Education Expo 2025 in Medan, Indonesia
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) participated in the Sutomo World Education Expo 2025 (SWEE) held at Sutomo 1 High School in Medan, Indonesia from October 3 to 4, 2025. The event brought together 47 universities and colleges from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia, and Hong Kong, attracting more than 5,000 students and parents from Sutomo 1, Sutomo 2, and neighboring high schools.

Representing NCKU were Ms. Charlotte Li and Ms. Zoe Shih from the Office of International Affairs (OIA), who conducted a number of NCKU introduction sessions and interacted with local students and parents. They addressed frequently asked questions regarding the academic excellence of NCKU, scholarships and tuition fees, as well as NCKU’s emphasis in cultivating students’ soft skills, leadership, while fostering their professional development. The introduction also highlighted NCKU’s commitment to education and its strong reputation for producing graduates with excellent career prospects in Taiwan’s safe and inclusive environment.

The OIA team was joined by Mr. Axelico Sidik, a fourth-year student of the Department of Electrical Engineering and an alumnus of Sutomo 1 High School. As former Vice President of the Overseas Chinese Students’ Union and former President of the Tainan Indonesian Student Association, he shared his study experiences at NCKU across four sessions, inspiring students to actively engage and learn about campus life.

Throughout the two-day expo, NCKU hosted multiple information sessions and interactive consultations, reaching over 1,600 participants. This visit strengthened recruitment channels and reinforced NCKU’s visibility in Indonesia through cultural familiarity, alumni participation, and the use of local languages, which helped build engagement and greater trust in student recruitment efforts. The overall experience is expected to further expand the number of Indonesian students, who now constitute the second-largest group of international students at NCKU.
