NCKU attends CiC Annual Meeting to promote transborder research and education networks.

The Campus in Campus (CiC) Annual Meeting was held on October 1 to 3, 2025, in Tsukuba, Japan. NCKU’s Executive Vice President Shyy-Woei Chang together with Deputy Director Ya-Tsui Ellen Hsueh, Division of International Relations, Office of International Affairs, attended the meeting to strengthen global partnerships. The meeting agenda centered on two main themes—Education and Research—with a strong emphasis on student involvement. Educational discussions explored strengthening student mobility, expanding dual degree programs, and utilizing online learning platforms. Research discussions centered on the strategic implementation of the CiC Seed Fund Program, fostering tripartite research cooperation, accelerating industry collaboration, and cultivating startups to produce research with significant, tangible social impact.

During the meeting, NCKU highlighted its commitment to three key areas: fostering interdisciplinary research, offering industry internship opportunities, and sharing AI education expertise. Bilateral talks at the meeting were highly productive. EVP Chang and President Yassine Lakhnech of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) agreed to pursue a faculty exchange agreement. Additionally, discussions with President Nagata Kyosuke of the University of Tsukuba (UT) led to a consensus on developing joint faculty appointments, dual degree programs, and targeted collaborations in specific fields.

Deputy Director Hsueh of International Relations observed that the future of education will trend toward blended learning (virtual and physical), industry linkage, and open education, while research collaboration will center on cutting-edge fields and the injection of substantial funding. The CiC Seed Fund Program would facilitate tripartite research projects, leveraging NCKU's strengths with partners like UT and UGA, thereby boosting the quality and effectiveness of cross-border scientific research.

The Campus-in-Campus (CiC) Initiative is a global strategic alliance currently comprising 13 universities from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, dedicated to creating a truly transborder academic environment. Its primary objective is to leverage collective research and educational assets, eliminating national or institutional barriers. Furthermore, the CiC scheme is expected to significantly boost the mobility of exchange students, faculty, and administrative staff across all participating universities.
