On November 5th, Mr. Osamu Setokuma, Chair of the Board of Trustees from CIT in Japan, led a delegation to visit NCKU. The delegation included Mr. Shusaku Maeda, Executive Director of the Board of Trustees; Mr. Fumito Ishibashi, Deputy Director General; Ms. Tomoko Arai, Director of the Planetary Exploration Research Center; Mr. Toru Nagao, Vice-President for International Relations, Regional Contribution, Industry-Academic Collaboration; Mr. Hiroyuki Konno, President of the Union, Japan Agricultural Co-operatives; Mr. Kengo Ito, Executive Director, Japan Agricultural Co-operatives; and Mr. Hideo Tanaka, Assistant Section Chief of General Affairs Section at CIT.

During this visit, CIT expressed strong interest in initiating collaboration with NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing and continuing their existing cooperation with NCKU’s College of Planning and Design. Besides, CIT is looking forward to expanding academic exchanges across a wider range of disciplines, including AI, space technology, and quantum.
The delegation of CIT’s visit included three stops: Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM), Innovation Headquarters (IHQ), and Center for Quantum Frontiers of Research and Technology (QFort) , concluding with a tour of the Banyan Garden. The first meeting at AISSM hosted by Dr. Woei-Jer Chuang, Executive Vice President of NCKU and attended by Prof. Yan-Kuin Su, and Prof. Jen-Sue Chen, Dean and Associate Dean of AISSM, Prof. Min-Yuan Ma, the Head of Art Center, and Ms. Ya-Tsui Ellen Hsueh, Deputy Director, International Relations Division, Office of International Affairs. During the meeting, Executive Vice President Chuang and Dean Su introduced NCKU’s achievements in semiconductor research and industry collaboration, with Mr. Setokuma expressing his genuine hope for future research partnerships between two institutions.

The second meeting was held at IHQ, where Distinguished Prof. Liang-Ming Whang, Director General of IHQ led a team to introduce the center’s activities. Prof. Yen-Chen Liu, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Chief of Industry Liaison Office of IHQ, and Prof. Charles Lin , Director of Han-Min Hsia Space Science & Technology Center both delivered brief presentations. Given the presence of space exploration experts from both institutions, the meeting also included discussions about potential collaboration in this field. Chair Prof. Sun-Yuan Hsieh, Vice President for International Affairs, shared the vision to elevate existing college-level collaborations with CIT to a university-level, a proposal met with great interest from CIT. The third meeting took place at QFort, where Prof. Yueh-Nan Chen, Acting Director of QFort introduced the center and organized a 30-minute in-depth facility tour, led by Prof. Ming-Hao Liu and Associate Prof. Ching-Hao Chang.
