On October 8, 2024, the KTH delegation (KTH, Royal Institute of Technology) led by Prof. Stefan Östlund, Vice President for International Relations, visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) to discuss the 3+2 Dual Master’s Degree Program, which was mutually initiated in September 2023. The visit also aims to explore new opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions in student exchange, internships, and strategic research. To deepen the discussion, NCKU invited representatives from strategic departments, including Computer Science and Information Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and Biotechnology and Bioindustry Sciences, to provide insights and analysis on potential collaboration in academic research and talent cultivation.

During the opening of the event, Prof. Shu-Ying Wang, the Director of the Division of Study Abroad at NCKU’s Office of International Affairs, delivered a warm welcome message to the KTH delegation. She first highlighted the long-standing academic collaboration between the two institutions, and then emphasized how the renewal of the 3+2 Joint/Dual Master’s Degree Program will bring mutual benefits to both students and faculty. Following her remarks, Prof. Stefan Östlund expressed his pleasure in visiting NCKU and shared his excitement about the upcoming discussions on potential new academic and research collaborations between the two institutions.
During the discussion session, representatives from five major departments of our university engaged in lively discussions with representatives from KTH on their respective research fields and expertise. Prof. Shyh-Hau Wang, the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, expressed great interest in student exchanges between the two institutions and suggested encouraging research collaboration between faculty members. Prof. Chih-Hsing Liu, the Associate Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering conveyed the department's desire for research collaboration. Distinguished Prof. Yue-Nan Chen from the Department of Physics shared internship opportunities at Center for Quantum Frontier of Research and Technology (QFort), inviting KTH students to submit applications, during which they could also take courses and experience Taiwanese culture. The originally scheduled 25-minute discussion was extended to 40 minutes, reflecting the strong enthusiasm and commitment of both institutions toward academic exchange and collaboration.
