【NCKU OIA eNews】Malaysian Chinese Independent High Schools and Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur Visit National Cheng Kung University

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosted the first exchange event for Malaysian Chinese Independent High Schools and Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur from 19 to 22 September. Joined by 31 Principals and Management Representatives from 19 schools, the event aimed to strengthen academic ties by providing opportunities for Malaysian students to unleash their potential by furthering their studies in NCKU. The highlight of the event was the signing of the Outstanding Student Referral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)among NCKU and the 19 participating schools. Through the MoU, the participating Malaysian schools were able to refer top students for admission to NCKU, enhancing international educational collaboration.

The MoU signing was conducted during the event’s opening ceremony on 20 September. NCKU President Dr. Meng-Ru Shen extended a warm welcome to the schools, emphasizing the significance of fostering international cooperation and nurturing global talent, and how much he was impressed by the outstanding academic performance of Malaysian students in the NCKU-Mathematics and Science Competition and Business Competition. President Shen highlighted NCKU’s strong tradition of academic excellence and its world-class research facilities. He hoped that the referral agreement would attract more promising Malaysian students to NCKU, allowing them to be nurtured in NCKU’s dynamic learning environment and diverse academic opportunities.

 

NCKU Executive Vice President Dr. Hong-Chen Chen remarked that this visit marked the first time Malaysian Chinese Independent High Schools and Chinese Taipei School Kuala Lumpur were invited for direct exchanges at NCKU. He noted that the visit allowed education practitioners to gain firsthand insights, which they could share with their students, potentially encouraging more to apply to NCKU.

Followed by the signing of the MOU was an introduction of NCKU where NCKU Vice President for International Affairs, Chair Professor Sun-Yuan Hsiehgave an overview on the history and the latest development of NCKU. The guests then joined the luncheon gathering with current NCKU Malaysian students, who shared their experience studying at NCKU. In the afternoon session, Deans and Representatives of the 9 colleges were also invited to share the strengths and research excellence of each college.
