【Delegates from Honors College of Purdue University Shares Enriching Experiences with NCKU Students】

On May 13th, delegates from John Martinson Honors College of Purdue University visited NCKU.   Dr. Leighton Buntain, Global and Intercultural Scholar-in-Residence, and Dr. Dwaine Jengelley, Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Interdisciplinary Sports Studies Research Generator, joined a lunchtime discussion with students enrolled in the NCKU - Purdue Dual Degree Programs. They introduced Honors College and offered some advice about studying and living in the United States.

Starting next year, the Honors College will collaborate with NCKU to co-host a course called Solutions Lab Global, designed to explore solutions for global issues through interdisciplinary collaboration between the two institutions. The Honors College emphasizes diversity and interdisciplinary learning, rather than focusing solely on academic performance.

Dr. Leighton Buntain, in addition to introducing the Honors College, warmly welcomed questions regarding studying in the United States. With over 15 years of living and working in Asian countries, Dr. Buntain possesses profound insights into cross-cultural differences and expertise in intercultural learning and contact. He underscored the significant emphasis on extracurricular activities in U.S. college life, pointing out that various clubs are essential for students to build friends and enrich the college experience. For example, attending soccer or basketball games is a MUST to experience what is so called “crazy”. He encouraged everyone to "Force yourself to go out!" while studying in the U.S., emphasizing that there are so many things to do during college life, and it is up to the students to discover and create them.
Finally, Dr. Buntain and Dr. Jengelley welcomed all students who will be studying in Purdue to stop by or to visit Honors College where they are willing to provide supports for international students.
