【NCKU collaborates with NSTC to attract exceptional overseas talents for graduate degrees】
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosted a study experience-sharing session for our distinguished international graduate students on March 3rd at The Magic School of Green Technologies on the Li-Hsing Campus. Collaborating with NSTC IIPP (National Science and Technology Council – International Internship Pilot Program), the sharing session aimed at attracting exceptional overseas talents for graduate degrees.
The visiting interns of NSTC IIPP came from 9 different countries, including Thailand, The Philippines, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Germany, and Russia – according to the statistics in the 2023 fall semester, the number of graduate students from these countries enrolled in NCKU is 52.5% of the total overseas graduate students. As the interns currently join the top research teams in Taiwan for 3 months, NCKU is dedicated to building a bridge for the exceptional interns to stay in Taiwan after their internship to further pursue Masters & Ph.D. degrees at NCKU.
Prof. Chun Hei Antonio Cheung, Director of the Division of Overseas Students and Scholars Services, Office of International Affairs, gave an opening speech to welcome all the visiting guests, followed by Dr. Ymir M. Garcia, a Ph.D. Candidate of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, who gave an overview of NCKU and shared his valuable experience in his field, encouraging the interns to consider NCKU their top choice for graduate degrees. The second and third speakers were both awardees of "NCKU Distinguished International Student Scholarship" – Priskila Acha, a Ph.D. Student of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Tong Duy Quoc., a Master’s Student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, reckoned the scholarship provides financially carefree studies. Besides, Ms. Priskila shared her insights gained from the Functional Gene and Proteomics Laboratory at NCKU; Mr. Tong also mentioned that NCKU's excellent reputation, rankings, and friendly environment for overseas students are the reasons he recommends NCKU to international talents.
