【Teachers and students of S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School (Hong Kong) visiting NCKU】

A group of 4 teachers and 34 students from S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School, Hong Kong visited NCKU on Jan.10, 2024. The visit took place at the Chinese Literature Department, the Department and OIA hosted a series of activities to unfold the highlights of NCKU and the charm behind legendary litterateur Su Xuelin, a former NCKU Professor who retired with honors at the Chinese Literature Department.

First, Chia-Huang Chen, the Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts gave a warm welcome to the guests, followed by an introduction to NCKU presented by Professor Chun-Hei Cheung from OIA. Professor Cheung shared with the audience different aspects of advantages NCKU has: rich history & vast campus, excellent academic achievements, being the innovation hub in Southern Taiwan, distinguished alumni, and strong & diverse international connections with NCKU’s valued global partners. Besides, NCKU is dedicated to linking up with the world, we participate in multiple University Alliances, and with regard to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, NCKU is ranked the Top 1 in THE Impact Rankings (Taiwan) & 24th Worldwide; not only does NCKU value international collaboration and SDGs, but we also create a borderless campus, with international teachers and students (up to 9% are international students) and EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction Courses).

Mei-Tzu Tsai, Professor of Chinese Literature Department gave a speech about Su Xuelin (1897–1999), an honorary Professor at NCKU, also a writer and literary scholar of great renown. Professor Tsai shared a video that unveils the life of this great litterateur, from her famous literary works (e.g.《綠天》and《棘心》), the era she lived in (May Fourth Movement) and her influence, her hometown and how she devoted to NCKU as the Professor of Chinese Literature Department in her old age. Lastly, the visiting group was invited to a guided tour of Professor Su Xuelin Memorial Room, to learn more about her anecdotes and immersed themselves in the world of Professor Su, and to see the world & the past era through her eyes.
