【NCKU and Kumamoto University Sign an Agreement to Deepen Mutual Academic Cooperation and Student Exchange】
Based on fruitful collaboration with Kumamoto University in recent years, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Kumamoto University have solidified longstanding relationship by officially signing an agreement on academic and student exchange in January 2024. It is expected to facilitate the mutual exchange of knowledge, research, and cultural experiences among students and faculty members for the foreseeable future.

In the past five years, NCKU and Kumamoto University have fostered a close partnership in the field of disaster prevention, focusing on typhoons, earthquakes, and watershed management. Furthermore, in recent years, the Japanese government has been actively bolstering support for the development of the semiconductor industry in Kumamoto. Recognizing the strategic importance of semiconductor technology in driving innovation and economic growth, both universities are poised to deepen their cooperation in this critical sector.

Kumamoto University is one of the oldest universities in Japan with seven faculties, nine graduate schools and 25 research centers/institutes that support a wide spectrum of educational and research activities. Currently, the university is home to around 8,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students. It has been selected by the Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for Top Global University Project, as one of the innovative universities that lead the internationalization of Japanese society, based on continuous improvement.
