CommonWealth Magazine interviewed Executive Vice President Chen about the "NCKU NOVA Scholarship" and the "Purdue MS – NCKU BS Dual Degree Programs"

On December 26th, CommonWealth Magazine interviewed Executive Vice President, Hong-Chen Chen about his experiences and thoughts on promoting the "NCKU NOVA Scholarship" and the "Purdue MS – NCKU BS Dual Degree Programs."

Professor Hong-Chen Chen, Executive Vice President of NCKU, shares his perspectives on “NCKU NOVA scholarship” and “NCKU-Purdue dual program” with the CommonWealth Magazine interview reporter

Regarding the distinctions between the "NCKU NOVA Scholarship" and other scholarships, he mentioned that alumni who initiated this scholarship not only express their gratitude by giving back to NCKU but also show the initiative to serve as mentors for these young students. They guide scholarship recipients in their academic and career development through a "Hand in Hand" mentorship approach. This proactive involvement has deeply moved him. The term "NOVA" signifies a new star in the universe, symbolizing that each scholarship recipient, who will become a NOVA scholar in the future, is like a new and unique planet, brimming with infinite possibilities.

As for the 3+1+1 dual degree program between NCKU and Purdue University, it has entered its fourth year. Currently, we have 16 students in their fourth year at Purdue University. According to Executive Vice President Chen's observations, these students set high expectations for themselves, exude with confidence, and express themselves boldly. Students admitted to this program possess a passion for learning and the determination to achieve their goals, fearlessly embracing challenges. With various special activities and courses arranged by NCKU for this program, students can quickly adapt to campus life and overcome challenges at Purdue University.

Executive Vice President Chen encouraged students to cultivate five key abilities: leadership and problem-solving skills, lifelong learning ability, commitment to work, integrity and diligence, and responsibility to the society. And he had high expectations of NCKU students to become elites and make contributions to our society and the world.
