Semiconductor Industry Journey: In-Depth Exploration of Materials Science and Production Processes

On October 18th, the Overseas Students and Scholars Services (OSSS) led a group of international students to visit companies in the Hsinchu Science Park. The group visited Diodes Incorporated, ELAN Microelectronics Corp, and the Hsinchu Science Park Life Hub.

Established in Texas in 1959, Diodes Incorporated (referred to as Diodes) entered the Taiwanese semiconductor market in 2020 through the acquisition of Dunan Technology Co., Ltd. Diodes’ primary focus is on the end-user equipment market, such as data communication devices and ADSL modems. During the visit, students showed great interest in Diodes’ production processes, actively posing questions to Diodes’ executives. After the visit, they enjoyed a delicious lunch with the executives, continuing discussions on the development trends in the semiconductor industry. This visit gave the students a significant understanding of the operations and processes of a semiconductor company.

The other enterprise was the local Taiwanese company, ELAN Microelectronics Corp, specializing in touch screen chip products. The company's products hold a leading position in the global laptop market. Upon entering ELAN's lobby, the manager showcased its unique features, including a life-sized dinosaur fossil, a futuristic tower, a constellation disc, and a water clock. The visit commenced with an introduction to the dinosaur fossil. Then, the manager demonstrated the company's demo products to the students, providing detailed explanations in fluent English. As a result, ELAN left the most lasting impression on the students during this visit. The Hsinchu Science Park Life Hub provided the visiting group with insights into the environment and lifestyle of the "Taiwan Silicon Valley."

To sum up, the feedback from the students regarding this corporate visit was positive, expressing that they learned a significant amount of professional knowledge in the field of semiconductors. They also indicated their willingness to participate in future corporate visit activities and further exchanges with companies.
