World Federation of Taiwan Alumni Associations visiting NCKU

The University of Wisconsin System (UW System)'s Interim Senior Vice President Johannes Britz and Interim Associate Vice President Tracy Davidson paid a visit to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on October 13th. Through an in-depth and fruitful discussion, NCKU hopes to shape a future collaboration with the UW System in three target disciplines: Medicine, Planning and Design, and Mandarin Language, and looks forward to initiating joint research, student exchange, faculty mobility, and academic programs or activities of mutual interest.

The World Federation of Taiwan Alumni Associations (WFOTAA), led by President YANG, RU-LUNG, visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on Oct.25. In the collaboration and exchange meeting, Prof. Chao-Hung Lin (the Vice President of OIA, NCKU) welcomed the 41 delegation members of WFOTAA and shared the vision of recruiting more outstanding overseas students to NCKU.

Vice President Lin pointed out that overseas students have the advantage of proficiency in multiple languages, and are professional talents that domestic and overseas Chinese/Taiwanese enterprises are eager to recruit. Therefore, the NCKU-Butterfly Program collaborates with domestic/foreign/alumni enterprises to provide students with internship, employment, and scholarship opportunities for them to study in Taiwan without worrying about these aspects; when graduating from NCKU and returning to their country of residence, students are encouraged to share their good experience in Taiwan with younger students to inspire them to study at NCKU.

AISSM’s (NCKU's Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing) Vice Director Weili Teng and Program Director Wei-Chen Tu also participated in the meeting. They introduced AISSM’s goal of ‘‘Discipline Integration for Sustainable Innovation’’, with excellent teachers for graduate degree programs in 5 domains of semiconductors, abundant scholarships, academia-industry collaboration (e.g., internships), and international exchange/learning opportunities. AISSM is looking forward to attracting more overseas students to study here at NCKU, Taiwan.

WFOTAA also visited NCKU Innovation Headquarters and NCKU Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center to learn about different aspects of overseas students studying at NCKU and anticipate opening up further opportunities for future collaboration.
