On June 1, the Division of Overseas Students and Scholars Services (OSSS) hosted the 2026 Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Event, bringing the rich traditions of Taiwan's Dragon Boat Festival to both international students and international scholars at NCKU.

The event brought together 128 international students at the OSSS Office and a group of international scholars at the OSSS International Scholars' Luncheon, offering both communities a shared introduction to the history and traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival. Participants took part in a rice dumpling (zongzi) tasting session, learning about the cultural significance of the dish while enjoying its unique flavor, and tried their hand at the egg balancing challenge, a festive tradition believed to bring good luck. When the eggs finally stood upright, both events broke into cheers and proud smiles. Each participant also received a traditional fragrant sachet (xiangbao) as a festive blessing from the office, along with an explanation of its meaning: protection and good fortune.

Through these shared, hands-on experiences, both international students and scholars gained a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture, built new friendships, and strengthened their connection with the NCKU community. OSSS will continue to organize multicultural activities throughout the year to foster an inclusive campus environment and support the international community in adapting to life in Taiwan while enriching their intercultural experiences.
