A total of 36 faculty members and students participating in the NCKU–UChicago–Tufts exchange programs gathered at the joint luncheon, strengthening friendships and institutional ties. 

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosted the “NCKU x UChicago x Tufts Joint Lunch Gathering” on June 15, bringing together students and faculty participating in summer research exchange programs with the University of Chicago and Tufts University. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen friendships and foster academic collaboration among the three institutions.

Since 2025, NCKU has partnered with both universities to offer bilateral summer research exchange programs. In 2026, the collaboration expanded to include the liberal arts and social sciences, reflecting the growing scope of cooperation.

This summer, NCKU welcomed two students from the University of Chicago and nine from Tufts University. Meanwhile, ten NCKU students will conduct summer research at each partner institution in the United States, further enhancing student mobility and academic exchange.
Vice President for International Affairs, Professor Wen-Tai Chiu, emphasized that student exchange represents far more than physical mobility across borders; it is also a symbol of friendship and partnership among institutions. Through collaborative research, cultural immersion, and everyday interactions, students broaden their global perspectives and establish meaningful international connections.

The Tufts program was initiated by Professor Chung-Hua Chang, an alumnus of NCKU and faculty member at Tufts University, who has actively supported the partnership. Mr. Evan Lohmann, Senior Assistant Director of Tufts Programs Abroad, also visited NCKU to learn more about students’ experiences in Taiwan.

During the gathering, students shared their research interests and experiences in Taiwan, highlighting the importance of international exchange in promoting intercultural understanding and academic collaboration. NCKU will continue strengthening partnerships with leading universities worldwide to create more opportunities for global learning and research.
