On 2 April 2026, 21 Hong Kong secondary school educators visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) as part of the 2026 Taiwan-Hong Kong Education Exchange Visit, arranged by Chinese Youth International. Alongside the educators, representatives from the Highwise Service Foundation of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Compatriot Students, and Chinese Youth International were also in attendance.

The program was opened by Charlotte Li, Senior Executive Manager of the Office of International Affairs, who also delivered a comprehensive introduction to NCKU covering its history, academic programs, and admission pathways. A representative from TECO’s Highwise Service Foundation also addressed the delegation.

A centerpiece of the program was a sharing session featuring two Hong Kong students and one alumnus, each offering the visiting educators a candid and personal window into life at NCKU. Yik Long Wu, a fourth-year student from the Department of History, spoke of his journey discovering Tainan’s history and nature through his studies and noted differences between Taiwan and Hong Kong’s higher education. Hao Xuan Leung, a second-year student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, painted a vivid picture of campus life beyond the classroom — from NCKU Bike Fest, an event that helps secondary and vocational school students explore their future directions, to volunteering with the NCKU Stray Animal Team and running marathons. Rounding out the session, Matthew Mak, an MA graduate of the Department of Taiwan Literature, offered a more reflective perspective, sharing the ups and downs of studying abroad, the fullness of everyday life in Tainan, and the lasting influence his years at NCKU have had on his personal and academic growth.

Through direct engagement with current students and alumni, the visit aimed to equip Hong Kong secondary school educators with a fuller picture of student life at NCKU, supporting their guidance of students considering higher education in Taiwan.
